SynonymsFrom Wiktionary under the GNU Free Documentation License. Masonry is the building of structures from individual units laid in and bound together by mortar; the term masonry can also refer to the units themselves. The common materials of masonry construction are brick, stone such as marble, granite, travertine, limestone; concrete block, glass block, and tile. Masonry is generally a highly durable form of construction. However, the materials used, the quality of the mortar and workmanship, and the pattern in which the units are assembled can significantly affect the durability of the overall masonry construction. Masonry units, such as brick, tile, stone, glass brick or concrete block generally conform to the requirements specified in the 2003 International Building Code (IBC) Section 2103. ApplicationsMasonry is commonly used for the walls of buildings, retaining walls and monuments. Brick and concrete block are the most common types of masonry in use in industrialized nations and may be either weight-bearing or a veneer. Concrete blocks, especially those with hollow cores, offer various possibilities in masonry construction. They generally provide great compressive strength, and are best suited to structures with light transverse loading when the cores remain unfilled. Filling some or all of the cores with concrete or concrete with steel reinforcement (typically rebar) offers much greater tensile and lateral strength to structures. From Wikipedia under the

How do i fix it.? Q. I installed a new masonry chimney (16x16 with 8x8 liner) about a month ago. I have had a lot of water coming out of the cleanout at the bottom. It is an interior chimney and the water is coming into my floor. Can anyone tell me a fix for this problem? A smaller hotter fire is better than a big smoky one. The story of what the Indian told his friend:IE:White man, make big fire, sit far away: Indian, make small fire, sit on top. Another problem, check your wood, the type your using, how wet is it, lot's of condensation from it too. Q. Nail Properly treated wooden studs to masonry wall then cover the cladding? Fix steel furring to masonry wall then cover with wooden cladding? Chip the walls then replaster before placing the wooden cladding? Nail the wooden cladding directly on it? :D Asked by Jerold the Magician - Wed Dec 30 23:14:42 2009 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments A. yes, i would say steel furring is the way to go here. lay the furring perpedicular to the studs and shim them flat/square where needed. then cover with wood cladding.
